M27 junction 10's westbound exit slip shuts 9pm to 6am to 8 October, before the junction opens fully on 12 October. Funtley Hill shuts for four nights.
Fareham roadworks this week: the M27 junction 10 westbound exit slip shuts overnight, 9pm to 6am, from tonight, Monday 5 October. National Highways’ closure report lists it on the nights of 5, 6, 7 and 8 October. The junction 10 eastbound entry slip joins it on the night of 6 October only.
Then the junction opens fully on Monday 12 October. Hampshire County Council confirmed the date in its own scheme update on 1 October. From then you can join the M27 westbound and leave it eastbound at junction 10 for the first time.
On the local roads, Funtley Hill and Funtley Road shut overnight from Tuesday 6 October, 10pm to 6am, for up to four nights.
Updated 5 October: Hampshire’s road closure notices were readable again today, so the borough roads below are re-checked rather than carried forward. The 12 October opening is now confirmed by the county itself. Last weekend’s rail replacement and the M275 link closure have ended and are removed.
Everything below was read from Hampshire County Council’s public notices and its M27 junction 10 pages, First Bus and South Western Railway on 5 October 2026, and from the National Highways closure report on 3 October, unless a different date is given.
The motorway: four junction 10 nights, then the full opening
National Highways’ report for 2 to 8 October lists these junction 10 closures, all described as “M27 both directions Jct 11 to Jct 9. Carriageway, slip road and lane closures for Hampshire County Council”:
- Westbound exit slip (leaving towards Whiteley and Southampton): 9pm to 6am on the nights of 5, 6, 7 and 8 October.
- Eastbound entry slip (joining towards Fareham and Portsmouth): 9pm to 6am on the night of 6 October.
The county’s own alert allows more nights than that. Its 24 September travel alert, re-read today, gives both slips “nightly from 5 October to 10 October 2026”, with contingency closures “between 10 and 12 October” if needed. On those nights lane 1 stays shut as now, and lanes 2 and 3 close as well, leaving only lane 4 open. The National Highways report stops at 8 October. Where the two differ, the report is the better guide to what is booked, and the county page is the place to check the later nights.
Junction 11 and junction 9 are clear. The report lists no closure at either between 2 and 8 October.
Junction 10 opens fully on Monday 12 October
Hampshire County Council’s 1 October update says the new all-moves junction “will open on 12 October 2026”, earlier than planned. From then:
- you can join the M27 westbound at junction 10, towards Southampton
- you can leave the M27 eastbound at junction 10, coming from Southampton
- the new dual carriageway through the underpass, the A32/A3222 link road, runs with one lane each way at first, while landscaping and final work finish
The county also says:
- temporary speed limits and lane restrictions between junctions 9 and 11 stay until early 2027, while National Highways finishes safety and technology testing
- an extra lane on the approach to the eastbound entry slip is expected to open in early winter 2026
The 40mph limit on the new A3222 Welborne Link Road has been in force since 14 September. Anyone wanting to challenge those orders in the High Court has until 23 October. The full story is on our M27 junction 10 report.
Elsewhere on the motorways this week
- A27 westbound, Eastern Road to M27 junction 12, closes 10pm on 7 October to 6am on 8 October for barrier work. The A27 westbound entry slip to the M275 southbound at junction 12 closes 9pm on 8 October to 5am on 9 October.
- M3 northbound between junction 10 and junction 7, Winchester to Basingstoke, closes 9pm to 6am on the nights of 5, 6 and 7 October.
- M3 northbound junction 9 entry slip at Winchester stays shut, with the report still giving its end as 1 November 2027.
- Going west towards Southampton, the M27 westbound junction 5 exit and entry slips and the M27 westbound link to the M3 northbound close 9pm to 6am on 5 October. The westbound carriageway between the junction 4 exit and entry link roads closes 9pm to 6am on 6, 7 and 8 October for resurfacing.
One limit on that source. The report lists closures only. A speed limit or lane closure that leaves the road open does not appear in it.
Borough roads: what the county’s notices say today
Funtley Hill and Funtley Road, between The Waters and Funtley Court, close from Tuesday 6 October. The county’s notice expects no more than four nights, 10pm to 6am, for root cutting and patching by McAllister Bros Ltd. The signed diversion is Kiln Road, North Hill, the A32, the A334, Titchfield Lane and River Lane.
Three new notices have been published since our last check:
| Road | Stretch | Expected start | How long | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jubilee Road | King George Road to West Street | 14 October | 1 night, 6.30pm to 5am | Portsmouth Water, permanent reinstatement |
| Funtley Road | Honey Lane to Deerfield Avenue | 19 October | up to 12 days, 9am to 4pm | Core Highways, tree cutting and felling |
| Redlands Lane | Mill Road to Fayre Road | 24 October | up to 16 days, 24 hours a day | The Clancy Group, sewer repairs |
The signed diversions:
- Jubilee Road: Sunningdale Road, Myrtle Avenue, White Hart Lane, Castle Street, the A27 and West Street.
- Funtley Road: Funtley Hill, Kiln Road, Highlands Road, the A27, Mill Lane, Fontley Road and River Lane.
- Redlands Lane: Upper St Michaels Grove, Longfield Avenue, Newgate Lane and Gosport Road.
Funtley gets two closures in a month. The overnight one this week is on Funtley Hill; the daytime one from 19 October is further along Funtley Road, between Honey Lane and Deerfield Avenue.
Emergency notices that have run out or are about to:
- High Street, between Civic Way and East Street. The emergency notice from 11 September ran for at most 21 days, ending on 1 October. No replacement notice has been published.
- Crofton Way, Warsash, between Hamble Close and Thornton Avenue. The road closure and the footway closure outside 20 to 24 Crofton Way both run to 6 October at most.
- The temporary 30mph limit on Boarhunt Road to Delme Link Roundabout ends today, 5 October, at the latest.
A notice’s end date is the latest the order can last, not proof the road has reopened.
Longer-running closures:
- Stow Estate footpath, about 50 metres south of Stow Crescent, can close for up to 12 days within an order that started on 21 September, for SGN gas mains replacement. The notice does not give the days.
- Part of Fareham Footpath 38 was closed until 23 December for sewer repairs, as read on 27 September.
- Hill Head Road, between Cliff Road and Crofton Lane, and Cliff Road, between Hill Head Road and Knights Bank Road, can close on various dates from 5 May for up to 26 weeks, 7am to 5pm and 24 hours a day when required. That window runs to early November. It is for Turvey Construction to manage deliveries for building work. The signed route is Meon Road, Triangle Lane, Posbrook Lane, Coach Hill, Bridge Street, the B3334, Titchfield Road, Cuckoo Lane and Crofton Lane.
North Hill is open; the A32 beside it has lane closures to spring 2027
North Hill has been open in both directions since 17 September 2026, through new permanent traffic lights at the Wickham Road junction. Buckland, Welborne’s master developer, which funded and ran the work, confirmed this in its FAQ of 22 September. The Funtley Hill diversion this week is signed along North Hill.
Phase 2 is under way. Buckland’s North Hill page, checked on 3 October, says: “During this period some traffic management measures will be in place on the A32 Wickham Road dual carriageway, including narrowed lanes and some lane closures.” It is working towards finishing by early spring 2027. Phase 2 is a dedicated northbound bus lane on the A32 Wickham Road, running under the M27 bridge into the south of Welborne, with a walking and cycling path alongside.
Its 24 September letter to homes nearby adds that overnight road closures for resurfacing are planned for spring 2027, with no dates published yet, and that the new bus stops will not open until the work is finished.
Questions about the works go to Buckland at welborne@bucklanddevelopment.com.
Buses: three stop closures and a Portsmouth diversion
First Bus lists these, re-checked on 5 October. None of them appears on a council closure notice.
| Where | Services | When | What happens |

The trains
South Western Railway lists no engineering work on the lines through Fareham on the weekends of 10 and 11 or 17 and 18 October. Last weekend’s buses between Fareham and Portsmouth have finished.
Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October: the lines in the Southampton Central area are closed. The Southampton Central to Portsmouth stopping trains do not run, and a revised service runs between Fareham and Portsmouth.
Into November:
- Sunday 1 November: Southampton Central to Portsmouth stopping trains start from Woolston.
- Saturday 7 November: Waterloo to Weymouth trains are diverted and call additionally at Fareham.
- Saturday 28 November: buses run between Winchester and Fareham via Eastleigh, and a revised service runs between Fareham and Portsmouth.
Fareham’s direct London train runs inland via Eastleigh, Winchester and Basingstoke, not along the coast. That is why work at Eastleigh or Winchester reaches this line and work at Havant often does not.
On-the-day disruption is on National Rail’s Fareham station page. Fareham is a step-free category A station, with two lifts: one to platform 3 and one to platforms 1 and 2.
Times, fares and the last train home are on our Fareham trains to London page.
Parking
Fareham Borough Council splits its town centre car parks into three tiers. Charges apply Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm and Sundays and bank holidays 10.30am to 4pm, and every tier is free after 6pm.
- Outer car parks are free on Sundays and bank holidays. On a weekday they run from £0.70 for an hour to £3.50 for five hours or more.
- Market Quay, the premium car park, is £1.50 an hour, rising to £6.00 for four hours, and charges £1.50 an hour on Sundays.
- The inner car parks are £1.00 an hour. The Shopping Centre multi-storey charges £1 an hour on Sundays and opens 7.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 4.30pm on Sunday, and closes overnight.
The ten coastal car parks are the exception: they charge every day, 10am to 6pm. Nine of them are a flat £1.10 an hour with a 12-hour maximum stay: Hove-To, Meon Shore, Salterns Road, Monks Hill, Shore Road, Passage Lane, Swanwick Shore Road and the two at Portchester Castle. Wicor Recreation is the odd one out. It is £1.10 an hour Monday to Friday, but at weekends it is £1.10 for one hour, £2.20 for four hours or £4.40 for eight. The four-hour maximum stay at Swanwick Shore Road and Shore Road applies from April to 30 September, so it has lapsed for the winter.
Full detail is on our parking in Fareham page.
The routes that carry the borough
Fareham’s road network is a cross, and almost every local journey uses one arm of it.
- The M27 runs east to west across the top of the built-up area. Junction 9 is Whiteley, junction 10 is the one just rebuilt, junction 11 is Fareham itself. When one of the three is shut, the other two absorb it.
- The A27 is the old coast road, through Titchfield, past Fareham town centre as Western Way and Eastern Way, and on through Portchester towards Portsmouth. It is the diversion route for almost everything, which is why even a short closure on Eastern Way matters more than its length suggests.
- The A32 runs north from the town through Wickham Road out to Wickham, and south as Gosport Road towards Gosport. The new Welborne link road joins it at its northern end.
- Warsash, Locks Heath and Park Gate are served by lanes rather than main roads, which is why closures out there often have no realistic signed diversion at all.
What it means for you
- If you leave the M27 westbound at junction 10 at night, the exit slip is shut 9pm to 6am on 5, 6, 7 and 8 October. Use junction 9 or junction 11.
- If you join the M27 eastbound at junction 10 late on 6 October, that slip is shut too.
- From Monday 12 October, you can join the M27 westbound and leave it eastbound at junction 10. Until then, use junction 9 or junction 11 for those moves.
- If you drive north on the M3 at night, junction 10 to junction 7 is shut 9pm to 6am up to the night of 7 October.
- If you use the A32 Wickham Road, expect narrowed lanes and some lane closures beside North Hill until spring 2027.
- If you catch the X4 at Home Rule Road, Locks Heath, use the temporary stop from 5 to 16 October.
- If you catch the SD4 at North Hill, the stop is on a temporary one until February.
- If you drive through Funtley at night this week, Funtley Hill is shut 10pm to 6am for up to four nights from 6 October. Daytime closures follow further along Funtley Road from 19 October.
- If you use Redlands Lane, plan for up to 16 days of 24-hour closure from 24 October.
- If you take the stopping train to Southampton on 24 or 25 October, it does not run.
- If you drive through the town centre or Warsash, the High Street and Crofton Way emergency notices have run out or end on 6 October. Check the county’s notices if in doubt.
- If you are parking in town on a Sunday, the outer car parks are free. The coastal ones are not.
Where to check before you set off
- Hampshire County Council public notices for every temporary road closure order in the borough, with extents and diversions.
- The M27 junction 10 scheme page for progress updates and travel alerts.
- The National Highways closure report for the motorway itself, updated weekly.
- South Western Railway planned improvements for the line, month by month.
- First Bus Portsmouth, Fareham and Gosport service updates for diversions the closure notices do not mention.
Dates change at short notice, and a notice that says “approximate start date” means exactly that.
