Fareham News is an independent news and information site for Fareham and the Solent shore. We work from public records, we link to them, and we are not connected to any of the councils involved.

Where we cover

Fareham town, Portchester, Titchfield, Locks Heath, Warsash, Sarisbury, Stubbington and Hill Head all come under Fareham Borough Council. Waterlooville sits north east of them under different arrangements, and Emsworth and Hayling Island are further round the coast again in another district. We cover all of it and we name the responsible authority in every story, because on this stretch of coast the boundaries are not where people assume they are. Hampshire County Council runs roads, schools and social care across the area.

What we report

The councils’ planning registers and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood and coastal warnings for the harbours and the Solent shore, and company filings in The Gazette. Coastal flooding and the state of the sea defences are permanent local subjects and we report the official position on them.

How we work

Every fact is tied to a named source and linked, so you can read the original instead of trusting us. Where a record is ambiguous we say so rather than smoothing it over. Plain British English, no press releases printed as reporting, and no photographs taken from other outlets.
